Kathmandu, May 1. As the deadly second wave of Coronavirus shows no sign to fall back, Dr. Anthony Fauci has suggested the Government of India to impose a strict immediate shutdown for a few weeks.

During an interview with The Indian Express, the chief medical advisor to the Biden Administration said, the second most important thing is to get the supplies of oxygen, medication, PPEs in an organized way.

“China had a big explosion of coronavirus cases a year ago, they completely shut down. It is not necessary to shut down for six months, But just for a few weeks of lockdown could have a significant impact on the dynamics of the outbreak,” noted Fauci.

Fauci also opined that the Victory was declared too prematurely. “If India, a country of 1.4 billion people, has fully vaccinated only two per cent of its total population, then it has a very long way to go,” Fauci added.

Who is Anthony Fauci?

He is one of the world’s leading experts on infectious disease and is the highest-paid federal employee in the United States. He had earned recognition over a lifetime of leadership on HIV research and AIDS relief, as well as his advocacy for the vaccines against COVID-19.

Earlier in February, Fauci was honoured with a prestigious USD 1 million Dan David Prize for his contribution in the field of “vaccines” during the pandemic.

COVID in India

With over 19.2 million cases, India has become the second-highest infected country in the world. Moreover, India is also suffering from its rapidly shrinking economy. Therefore, with a population of over one billion, managing the situation is challenging.

India kicked off a nationwide vaccination drive in January, and so far over 154.9 million vaccination doses have been administered across the country.

India’s daily COVID-19 new cases reached 98,482 and new deaths hit 3,523 during the past 24 hours.
