Nepali Army to organize Run for Fun “Open Marathon” on Army Day (February 26).

Kathmandu, February 3. The Nepali Army has revealed its plans to organize an open marathon in the morning of the upcoming Army Day on February 26.

During an official press meet at Physical Training and Sports Center, Center Chief Colonel Munal Basnet announced that the “COAS Run for Fun” marathon will be organized under the slogan of ‘Sports for Entertainment: Unity, Collective Sentiments and Capability’.

Col. Basnet confirmed that the championship will be divided into several categories for different groups of enthusiasts:

  1. 42 kilometer full marathon (for men)
  2. 21 kilometer half marathon (for women)
  3. 10 kilometer participatory run for men and women officers.

The winners of the full marathon will receive Rs 3 lakhs, 2 lakhs and 1 lakh cash prizes.

Similarly, the winners of the half marathon will receive Rs 75 thousands,  50 thousands and 25 thousand cash prizes.

During the official meet, Kathmandu based Sisik Automobiles also announced that it will gift a Yamaha motorcycle and a Yamaha scooter to the first winners of both full and half marathons.

Col. Basnet also announced that a 5 kilometer walkathon will be arranged for participants who don’t want to run.
