Rain Ends Nepal’s U-19 World Cup Hopes, Afghanistan Qualifies on Run Rate

Kathmandu, April 19: Nepal’s dream of reaching the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup has ended after their crucial qualifier match against Afghanistan was canceled due to rain on Thursday.
The match was scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM at the Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground, but continuous rain prevented play, despite efforts to drain the waterlogged field.
The fixture was a decisive one, with both Nepal and Afghanistan tied on three wins each in the tournament. With equal points (7), the qualifier spot was determined by net run rate, which favored Afghanistan.
As a result, Afghanistan has secured qualification for the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is set to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The weather-induced exit is a heartbreaking end for Nepal, who had shown strong performances throughout the qualifiers.
