Nepal Government to award cash prizes of Rs. 3 Lakh each to National Cricket Team
Kathmandu, March 17. The government of Nepal has announced that all members of the national cricket team will be honored with cash prizes of Rs. 3 Lakh each.
On Friday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” praised the team for their achievement in qualifying for the World Cup cricket tournament qualifiers, stating that their hardship has raised Nepal’s reputation and identity.
The announcement of the honor was made in recognition of the outstanding performance of the Nepali cricket team in Thursday’s World Cup qualifier match held in Kathmandu.
The Nepali team had a victorious win over the United Arab Emirates by 9 runs. UAE had posted 311 runs target before Nepal. Nepal scored 269 runs for six wickets in 44 overs. The umpires called off the game due to insufficient light following a rain.
After the game was called off, the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method (DLS) was used to find out the winner. DLS is a mathematical formula used to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a limited overs cricket match that is halted due to weather or other factors.
Nepal will now participate in the world cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June.
