Lagos. A group of unidentified gunmen attacked a secondary school in Katsina, northern state of Nigeria. Nigerian police informed that hundreds of students fled and saved their lives after the gunmen entered the school premises.
Xinhua reports that the gunmen had come in motorcycles in the evening in a kidnapping bid and attacked the Government Boys Science Secondary School.
The police have not told anything about casualty and other losses in the incident. 200 residential students have returned to the school hostel and the police are trying to ascertain whether some students have been kidnapped or not.
“The bandits came on motorcycles firing sporadically and tried to enter the school,” said state police spokesman Isa Gambo. “Our men with the assistance of the army engaged them in a shootout lasting one and half hours.”
As per the local people, the gunmen have kidnapped some students and the local news media reported the same. They are not sure of the number though.
