Washington. Various cyberattacks have been reported at United States (US) government agencies, as confirmed by the government on Sunday. The cyberattacks were launched against the Treasury Department and Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

National Security Council spokesman John Ullyot said, “The United States government is aware of these reports and we are taking all necessary steps to identify and remedy any possible issues related to this situation. We can confirm there has been a breach in one of our bureaus. We have asked the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the FBI to investigate, and we cannot comment further at this time.”

The hack was so serious that a National Security Council meeting was held on Saturday. The hackers were said to have used the organization’s Microsoft Office 365 platform to monitor mails of staff since months.

An FBI spokesperson said it “can neither confirm nor deny details of the ongoing investigation” due to the agency’s rules.
