Kathmandu, December 23. Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed a bill that grants former presidents and their families a lifetime immunity once they leave office. They will be immune from prosecution of crimes and will be granted exemption from questioning by police or investigators.

Before the bill was made law, the presidents had immunity while in office but the new law will exempt them from grave crimes and charges in the constitutional courts as well.

The step comes a day after opposition leader Navalny claimed that the Federal Security Service (FSB) tried to kill him by poisoning.
