Kathmandu, Oct 10: A passenger aboard Buddha Air’s ATR plane opened the emergency door while it was preparing to take off from Biratnagar to Janakpur. The incident occurred after Buddha Air Flight No. 505, originally scheduled from Kathmandu to Janakpur, diverted to Biratnagar due to poor visibility in Janakpur.

The emergency door was opened as the plane was transitioning from the taxiway to the runway. Following the incident, the plane returned to the parking bay and underwent a technical inspection before resuming regular flights. The passenger responsible has been handed over to airport security.

Similar incidents have been reported recently, raising safety concerns. Under the ‘Non-Military Aviation Act, 2015,’ disrupting a flight can result in penalties ranging from 1 to 3 years’ imprisonment or even life imprisonment, depending on the severity of the crime.
